Joint Response on Budget Reconciliation
July 8, 2025
Last week, President Trump signed a budget reconciliation bill that will have devastating consequences for nearly 298,000 Colorado families who stand to lose some or all of their SNAP benefits. In addition to fundamentally altering SNAP, the bill's impact will extend beyond this program, disrupting child nutrition programs and causing disproportionate harm to Colorado’s most vulnerable communities, including children, older adults, people with disabilities, and immigrant families. In all, the bill will burden our state with an estimated $175 million in new, unfunded obligations, at a time when Colorado already faces budget shortfalls and has made cuts to critical services that Coloradans depend on.
The Colorado Blueprint to End Hunger, Hunger Free Colorado, and Nourish Colorado express serious concern about this legislation's impact on hunger, family stability, and economic security in our state. Recognizing the reality of the current moment, we will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen nutrition assistance programs and services. We stand ready to work with all collaborators, including state agencies, federal partners, and community organizations, to mitigate the harmful impacts of this legislation and protect Colorado's most vulnerable residents.
