Workgroup Vision & Goals

Goal #1: Increase public understanding and awareness that solving hunger is vital to the health and well-being of all individuals and families, the Colorado economy, and every local community.

Vision (Guiding Star): Move from a Colorado culture focused on individual conditions to one of community responsibility and support to end the systemic issue of hunger, resulting in everyone, regardless of social identities or personal characteristics, having access to culturally responsible food without stigma.

Metrics:

  • Percent of Coloradans who believe that “food is a human right” (increase)

  • Percent of Coloradans who believe “hunger is a system problem” (increase)

  • Percent of Coloradans that believe hunger is a serious issue (maintain)

  • Funding for anti-hunger work (increase)

  • Number of anti-hunger champions in state legislature (increase)

  • Number of anti-hunger legislation introduced and passed (increase)

Key Updates

  • Glossary for the Blueprint network: We have a new resource, developed with input from this workgroup, that covers common phrases (and their definitions) used by the Blueprint and its network of partners. This includes terms like food insecurity, equity, social determinants of health, and more. It’s intended to make it easier for new members participating in Blueprint-hosted meetings, in addition to ensuring we all have shared language. View the full list (as of February 2024).

  • Data dashboard: Access the Blueprint’s data dashboard, which hosts publicly available data in one place. This includes local, state, and national data for poverty, food access, food insecurity, SNAP and WIC participation, child nutrition, and public perception of hunger in Colorado.
